Glitchmobz: The Demo Is Out

The Glitchmobz demo is out! It is free and plays right in your browser, on your phone or your desktop, with nothing to install.

Play the demo here, or on itch.io.

Five seconds of Segfault, where nothing on screen can be trusted

What’s in the demo

Four towers and ten levels. Somewhere deep in an old machine, a forgotten process has a bug and is writing over everything around it. You are Pid86, the Garbage Collector, the last process small enough to fit in the memory that’s left. Climb the system tower by tower and bomb the corruption before it eats everything.

Every bomb costs you, so think before you drop one. You will meet Wallratz, damaged bits that grew legs, and Weedgrowers, memory leaks that grow while you wait. Bomb the root and the whole plant burns. Blockers always end up in your way, and Gruntz charge at anything in their line. Meanwhile the game itself is falling apart: glitches crawl over the map, and the screen tears and rots.

Your progress is saved in the browser, so you can stop and come back.

What comes later

The demo’s tricks are only the start. Further up, Brutez lob real bombs at you from behind walls, terminals keep the exit locked until you find and destroy them, swap glitches make two parts of the map trade places, and matrix rain falls down the screen, some of it lethal. There are levels where you steer two bodies at once and levels with several ways out, and more towers are on the way.

What changed along the way

If you read the first look, some of this will sound different, because the game has changed a lot since then. The promised first chapter of five levels became a demo of four towers, the levels are now grouped into towers that you climb floor by floor, and Brutez went from tough Gruntz to something much meaner. That is how it goes when a game is designed while it is being built.

Tell me what you think

This is the first time anyone but me gets to play it, so I would love to hear how it goes: where you got stuck, what felt unfair and what was fun. Comment on itch.io or find me on X. The game has its own page at Glitchmobz, and updates are collected under #glitchmobz.
